How Shriners Hospitals for Children Is Combating Bullying

Barry Kornfeld

A financial advisor based in Boca Raton, Florida, Barry M. Kornfeld is co-founder and principal of First Financial Tax Group. Outside of his professional activities, Barry Kornfeld gives back to the community via his support of organizations such as Shriners Hospitals for Children.

At several locations throughout the United States and Canada, the dedicated physicians of Shriners Hospitals for Children seek to provide compassionate, patient-focused care to children with unique health care needs. Treating pediatric patients with burn injuries, neuromusculoskeletal conditions, and other special health concerns, Shriners Hospitals provide quality care regardless of families’ race, nationality, or economic status.
Recently, Shriners Hospitals partnered with actor RJ Mitte to help ensure that all children receive the same respect, compassion, and equal treatment exemplified by the organization. In honor of National Bullying Prevention Month in October 2017, Shriners and Mitte officially launched the #CutTheBull campaign, which leverages interactive social media engagements, public service announcements, and a variety of ongoing resources to encourage youth to treat one another with kindness and respect, regardless of differences in their physical appearances or abilities.
As an individual with cerebral palsy, RJ Mitte has had a number of unfortunate experiences with bullies who targeted him simply because they viewed him as different. The actor is now seizing the chance to promote greater compassion among today’s youth, noting, “Now, I have an opportunity to give a voice to people with disabilities and promote acceptance.”
